Just coincidental timing, actually. I'm researching things for Book 4, which has some space-travel-y type stuff, so I'm trying to fact-check myself and make sure I get it right.

Depends if you're facing the sun or not. If you are, then you'd be blinded because the Earth's magnetic field protects us from solar radiation, which allows us to look at the sun for a short while, although it will hurt. If not, then it would be like one of those pictures when a light source is behind you and everything is really bright. It'd be like you're sitting in a planetarium.

This is really helpful. Thanks! I'm trying to keep things as realistic as possible in the 4th book while also giving myself some wiggle-room for comic book-style fantasy. Space is pretty amazing even without superheroes involved, so I'm trying to capture a sense of wonder for the characters, too.
